Medical Santo - Vanuatu 2025

Documenting Medical Santo: A beacon of hope for Northern Vanuatu

Vanuatu is a nation frequently impacted by natural disasters, where access to quality medical care is often limited. The needs within the community are diverse and complex. Conditions such as diabetes, infections, or even minor injuries can quickly become life-threatening when adequate medical treatment isn’t readily available.

Lyn and Alan Cox had been travelling to Vanuatu for many years, building deep friendships within the local community. Over time, they began to see a heartbreaking reality — that in Vanuatu, you don’t have to suffer from a major illness to lose your life prematurely. After a literally waking up from a dream, they partnered with local leaders to establish a medical centre in the heart of Luganville, Northern Vanuatu.

From humble beginnings — including early days when no patients arrived — to now operating at full capacity even without a resident doctor, their journey has been marked by perseverance, faith, and resilience. Through many challenges and victories, Medical Santo has grown into a vital healthcare provider, delivering exceptional care, saving lives, and creating meaningful employment opportunities for local staff.

We had the privilege of travelling to the island to document the daily rhythms of Medical Santo. From early morning cleaning and team prayer, to waiting rooms filled with patients, to rural outreach visits caring for those in remote areas — we captured the tireless dedication behind this life-changing work.

Luganville is undoubtedly a stronger and healthier community because of the unwavering commitment of Medical Santo and the partners who stand alongside them.
